Setting up upsell rules
Upsell rules make sure your staff never forget a question and every extra actually ends up on the ticket. You attach a rule to a product or a whole category and decide yourself whether the question is required.
Step by step
- 1
Go to product settings
Open Settings › Products and choose the product or category you want to create an upsell rule for.
- 2
Add a new rule
Add an upsell rule and give it a clear name, for example 'Choose your sauce' or 'Extra topping'.
- 3
Fill in choices and surcharge
Add the name and any surcharge for each choice. A choice with no surcharge appears free on the ticket as a note on the product.
- 4
Make it required or optional
Set the rule to required if the order can't go to the kitchen without a choice, and set the minimum and maximum number of choices.
- 5
Test on the till and handheld
Save and ring up the product on the till or handheld: the question appears immediately, and the chosen extras are on the kitchen ticket.
Good to know
- Attach a rule to a category instead of individual products; new products then inherit the rule automatically.
- Put popular options at the top — that saves taps during busy periods.
- Extras with a surcharge count towards margin reporting, so you immediately see what upselling delivers.
Frequently asked questions
Do the chosen extras appear on the kitchen ticket?
Yes. Every choice is printed under the product on the kitchen or bar ticket, so the kitchen knows exactly what to make.
Can an upsell rule be required?
Yes. With a required rule the product can only be added to the order once a choice has been made, with a configurable minimum and maximum.
Does upselling also work with QR ordering?
Yes. Guests ordering via the QR code see the same choices and surcharges as your staff at the till.
